The San Rafael Heritage Steering Committee is working to make SRH into an effective force to save and celebrate San Rafael’s precious historic physical legacy.  Since 2015, we have advocated for the preservation of iconic buildings such as the 1929 NWP Train Depot, the 1909 Carnegie-endowed San Rafael Public Library, and historic Fire Station 51 (which was demolished to make way for the public safety center).  Additionally, we have developed the following goals:

• We want to identify and celebrate the city’s best (and most endangered) historic buildings, those which give the town its sense of community and sense of character.

• We want to educate ourselves and the community about how these buildings contributed to the historical development of San Rafael; that knowledge will enrich our lives as residents and give our children an all-important sense of place.

• We want the City of San Rafael to develop more meaningful historic preservation guidelines.

 • And we want to have fun doing all this!

We are counting on you, John and Jane Q. Marin, to help us--with your support, ideas, and membership--to achieve these goals!

Our expenses have been modest so far, but they are continuous:  copy paper, photo-copying, printer’s ink, filing equipment, website, party supplies, etc. etc.  We expect those expenses to build as we tackle more preservation issues.

We are also looking for volunteers from the community.  If you can spare some time to get involved, please click the appropriate box on the membership form, or email me at [email protected]

We hope to hear from you soon. Thanks so much!
